Nature-Based Projects
Working in conjunction with landowners and farmers across the Wootton Brook and Harpers Brook catchments, we are using nature-based solutions to help mitigate climate change impacts.
By using Natural Flood Management (NFM) in our catchments, our aim is to help reduce surface water risks, store water in the land for longer, slow the flow into our towns and villages, while also boosting biodiversity.
Where will we do this?
Through specialist flood modelling, we know the best places where NFM will be most effective. We are working with farmers to pay them for using their land, which improves local agriculture and our local environment.

Work With Us
If you are a business or landowner in Northamptonshire and are interested in getting involved with, or investing in, environmental projects in your local area, click here to find projects that you can co-fund across Northamptonshire:
Trees in Parks
The Trees in Parks project will plant a collection of striking specimen trees—such as ginkgo and liquidambar—in public parks and open green spaces across the Harpers Brook and Wootton Brook catchments. These trees will form elegant avenues and focal points that enhance local landscapes, provide shade, support pollinators, and improve resilience to flooding and climate change.
Front Garden Forests
This project will offer 100 beautiful blossom trees, including cherry and magnolia, to households across more urban parts of the Harpers Brook and Wootton Brook catchments. By planting trees in front gardens, we aim to create a patchwork of greener, more resilient neighbourhoods that not only look stunning, but also help manage surface water, while supporting local wildlife.
One Mile of Hedgerows
This project will create one mile of new hedgerow across the Harpers Brook and Wootton Brook catchments, linking farmland, villages, and small holdings to form a rich, connected landscape that supports biodiversity, slows surface water runoff, and contributes to climate resilience.
NFM at Penvale Park, East Hunsbury
Installation of land bund, land reprofiling, enhancing drainage, and adding leaky dams.
Chase Park Farm, near Horton
New leaky dams and wetland scrapes introduced to slow water flow and create diverse habitats for wildlife.
Brigstock Wetland
Adjacent to Brigstock Village Hall, a wetland project at Brigstock aims to alleviate the flooding caused by the Harpers Brook.
