PFR Scheme Update: Moving Towards Installation Phase

As we approach the end of the year, we want to share an update on the progress of the Property Flood Resilience (PFR) scheme, as part of the RAIN project.

We know many of you are keen to see the next steps unfold, and we appreciate your patience as we’ve been working hard behind the scenes.

What We’ve Achieved So Far:

The PFR scheme has involved surveying over 100 eligible homes across the Harpers Brook and Wootton Brook catchments. These surveys, completed by our project partner JBA Consulting, were vital to understanding individual property needs and informing the next steps in the programme.

With the survey phase complete, we turned our focus to procuring an installation company to deliver the fully funded flood resilience measures, which are worth an average of £7,500 to £10,000 per property. This process required thorough checks and balances to ensure compliance with council policies and funding guidelines.

Where We Are Now:

We’re pleased to announce that we’re now in the process of onboarding an installation company and therefore we are gearing up to begin the next phase of the scheme.

In the coming weeks, eligible households that are part of the scheme will be contacted by either the RAIN team or our specialist contractors to discuss next steps and prepare for the specifying, ordering and installation of these vital resilience measures, and to provide a timescale for this body of work.

Harpers Court – Brigstock

We are working in partnership with the Longhurst Group, owners of the Harpers Court independent living scheme in Brigstock, to implement a range of resilience measures at the property.    As well as installing flood windows, doors and barriers & other appropriate measures, we are also supporting with the creation of an emergency flood plan, taking into account evacuation, accessibility & community buddies, as well as the creation of flood stores and individual flood kits for each of the residents.  The installer has already visited the property to conduct the initial survey, and a meeting with the residents has taken place to receive their feedback, and update them on the works.   Further updates will be shared with everyone once the works commence.

Stay Updated:

We understand how important it is to keep everyone informed. Moving forward, we’ll be providing updates via:

  • Our website: follow us on our news page here for dedicated PFR updates
  • Social media platforms: we will share updates via Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Instagram
  • SitePodium App: Sign-up for direct updates to your smartphone here (be sure to specify that you are a resident participating in the PFR scheme to receive targeted updates).

Additionally, here on our website, we host a range of practical articles and videos on flood preparedness, including guidance from our flood ambassador, Mary Long-Dhonau, on affordable ways to protect your home this winter.

Thank you for your continued support as we move closer to implementing these transformative measures.

Wetlands are often discussed in relation to flooding: their ability to hold water within the landscape, slow its flow and reduce the pressure placed on communities downstream, however, their value does not disappear when the rain stops.

Flood resilience isn’t achieved through a single solution. Instead, it is built by bringing together a range of complementary approaches that work together, much like the pieces of a jigsaw.
