Chase Park Farm, near Horton

Chase Park Farm
Chase Park Farm

Issue:
The wetland areas of Chase Park Farm, situated on farmland and parkland through which Grendon Brook runs, are unsuitable for growing arable crops. This has made parts of the land impractical for conventional farming, while also risking soil degradation.

Solution:
Natural Flood Management measures have been implemented to enhance the site’s functionality and biodiversity. These include transitioning arable land to species-rich grassland, eliminating fertiliser use, creating wetland scrapes, installing leaky dams, and adopting a herbal lay field management system. Cover crops are also sown to maintain soil health and create habitats for birds and pollinators.

Benefits:
The measures improve soil stability, enhance biodiversity, and create valuable habitats, while also supporting sustainable farming and flood resilience.

Nature-Based Projects

Trees in Parks

Catchment: Harpers & Wootton Brook

The Trees in Parks project will plant a collection of striking specimen trees—such as ginkgo and liquidambar—in public parks and open green spaces across the Harpers Brook and Wootton Brook catchments. These trees will form elegant avenues and focal points that enhance local landscapes, provide shade, support pollinators, and improve resilience to flooding and climate change.

Front Garden Forests

Catchment: Harpers & Wootton Brook

This project will offer 100 beautiful blossom trees, including cherry and magnolia, to households across more urban parts of the Harpers Brook and Wootton Brook catchments. By planting trees in front gardens, we aim to create a patchwork of greener, more resilient neighbourhoods that not only look stunning, but also help manage surface water, while supporting local wildlife.
